The elevated-temperature performance of 21CrMoV5-7 (Werkstoff 1.7709) is what defines its service envelope. The grade holds 0.2 percent proof stress ≥450 MPa at 500 deg C and ≥420 MPa at 550 deg C to EN 10269 elevated-temperature qualification. Above 550 deg C the V4C3-only chemistry runs out of creep margin and the design must step up to Durehete 1055 with Ti+B microalloying.

Young modulus drops from 210 GPa at room temperature to ~175 GPa at 500 deg C. The modulus drop is built into bolt-up design calculations as a thermal-relaxation contribution alongside the proof-stress curve.
Mean coefficient of thermal expansion from 20 deg C: 11.2 x 10^-6 / deg C to 200 deg C; 12.4 x 10^-6 / deg C to 400 deg C; 13.0 x 10^-6 / deg C to 550 deg C. Use in differential-expansion calculations between bolt and flange material.
Q. What is the 21CrMoV5-7 proof stress at 500 deg C?
450 MPa minimum to EN 10269; typical mill values 470 to 490 MPa. The proof stress is referenced in pressure-vessel and turbine flange design calculations against the design pressure-temperature envelope.
Q. Does the elongation drop at elevated temperature?
No. Elongation A5 remains at or above the room-temperature value (>=16 percent) through the entire service envelope. The Cr-Mo-V chemistry retains ductility at elevated temperature.
Q. What is the modulus of elasticity at 500 deg C?
Approximately 175 GPa at 500 deg C, dropping from 210 GPa at room temperature. The modulus drop is used in bolt-up preload calculations.
Q. Where does the data come from?
EN 10269 Annex A elevated-temperature qualification testing combined with producer datasheets from BGH, Boden, Rodacciai and Virgamet. The TorqBolt datasheet consolidates these into one reference table.
